PP-L’s Chief Technical Officer joins Expert Panel for IMechE’s CPD Module on COVID-19 Infection Control for Engineers

PP-L Biosafety’s Chief Technical Officer, Paul Waldeck, is part of the expert panel for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ (IMechE) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course, titled ‘COVID-19 INFECTION CONTROL FOR ENGINEERS’.

This course will include practical engineering solutions for COVID-19 risk management. The panel is led by Prof Cath Noakes OBE, Frank Mills, Andrew Bradley and Paul.

This course was created by the IMechE Covid Task Force who are members from across the Institution’s special interest groups and regions who can provide specialist input and advice on subject areas that can positively impact on eliminating and controlling the risk of COVID-19.

Paul will be sharing his knowledge on how engineering interventions including UV-C devices can help to reduce the transmission of the virus.

He says “This is one of those moments in history when Engineers can make a massive difference to humanity. Interior environments need to be re-assessed to protect against current and future viral threats. It’s no longer about SBS issues anymore.”

“The Coronavirus has been confirmed by the CDC to be a mainly airborne transmitted hazard. Now we know this, we can apply source control, intercept or remove that pathway to keep people safer.”

“Ventilation that is sufficient to dilute and extract the hazard is the priority but in mitigation, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and SAGE support the use of germicidal UV air disinfection systems are recognised as an effective, safe and reliable method of infection control, when specified correctly. This course will help Engineers, Facility Managers, Building Owners, and other interested professionals be more aware of the benefits of Ventilation, Filters and these germicidal technologies and how they can offer an effective infection prevention solution in the built environment.”

“With the use of engineering and technology, we can create safer environments, be compliant, confident and more pandemic resilient, ready forwhatever the future may bring” , says Paul

This course will be delivered online over four 90-minute sessions on the 26th, 27th, 28th and 29thJuly 2021 from 12:00 until 13:30 BST. However, IMechE is flexible and can deliver this course according to your team’s requirements, when requested.

Book today to secure your place on this course to receive the latest expertise and advice on COVID-19 and effective mitigating measures.
