PP-L Biosafety has been appointed to a new Dynamic Purchasing System, set up by the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Commercial Procurement Services, for the provision of Air Purification technologies.

The Trust has recognised the importance of these solutions, stating, “NHS Organisations and other public sector bodies have a responsibility to their staff, patients, visitors and/or other service users to keep them safe. Air purification and decontamination devices utilise a variety of methods to remove, minimise or otherwise eliminate contaminants in the air such as pollutants, allergens or airborne pathogens.”

Dr Rhys Thomas, chief medical & scientific officer at PP-L, says, “Our medical-grade air purifiers both filter and disinfect air at the highest efficacy levels of clinical-grade quality. This is achieved using a range of germicidal technologies such as HEPA filters, with antimicrobial copper mesh screens and germicidal UV, all contained, working together safely, and performing really powerful air disinfection and sterilisation.”

“The PP-L portable room air purifiers will disinfect the air at market-leading volumes. The devices that PP-L deploy are arguably the best medical-grade air purifiers now available, anywhere. Some have been validated to sterilise air to 8-Log scale reduction (99.999999) in viral content in a matter of minutes. To put that in context, these air decontamination devices can purify the air thousands of times better than bleach (3-Log, 99.9% reduction) disinfects surfaces.”

“These carefully engineered air purifier devices are extraordinarily potent, yet extremely quiet, below background levels, and some of the types that we have available are even silent. They have been proven to be extremely effective at suppressing COVID-19 cross-infection in hospitals in Northern Europe during the Covid-19 Pandemic. We have devices that undertake local source control in the rooms and wards; and other potent airborne infection prevention systems that are safely installed into the ventilation systems to disinfect whole building air flows.”

“This NHS framework is in addition to our status as the only “Medical Services” classified provider of germicidal filter solutions listed on the British Government’s “Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response Group of Key Suppliers”.

Although the Countess of Chester Hospital Foundation Trust instigated the Dynamic Purchasing System, it is available to all public sector organisations to use. The Trust has over 3,000 employees and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 250,000 residents, mainly in Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston and the Deeside areas.

Their high clinical outcomes and standards were recognised for the twelfth consecutive year of the being within the 40 Top Hospitals Award.

“PP-L Biosafety is an ideal partner. They are unique because not only do they support their clients with highly effective infection prevention biotechnologies, their team of chartered engineers, scientists, and medical professionals also offer clients their expertise, advice and support at the procurement and end user interfaces, on-demand, as required, to make sure the optimum solutions are achieved for each of the specific occupational uses and their associated bio-risks. This is a free consultation service.”

Dr Thomas added, “As a doctor and part-time NHS hospital Consultant myself, I am personally delighted to be able to offer our air purification technologies and expertise to the NHS and other public sector organisations, and we look forward to working closely with the teams at the Countess of Chester Hospitals Trust and other organisations around the UK to continuously improve the safety of staff, patients, visitors and other service users. Together, we can protect much better and create pandemic resilience for whatever the future may bring.”
